Massinger, Philip
(1583, cerca de Salisbury, Wiltshire, Inglaterra–mar. 1639/40, Londres).

Dramaturgo inglés. Después de un período en que colaboró con dramaturgos como John Fletcher, Massinger comenzó 1620 a escribir en forma independiente. A partir de 1625 se asoció con la compañía de teatro The King's Men. Las 15 obras de su exclusiva autoría que han llegado hasta nosotros se destacan por su realismo social y su fuerza satírica. Entre ellas sobresalen las comedias Nueva manera de pagar deudas antiguas ( 1624), su obra de teatro más conocida e influyente, y The City Madam [Señora ciudad] ( 1632), ambas de las cuales abordan temas económicos y sociales, y la tragedia histórica El actor romano ( 1626).
